★ An extremely rare tetradrachm of Caracalla from Byblus ★

PHOENICIA. Byblus. Caracalla, 198-217. Tetradrachm (Billon, 26 mm, 13.12 g, 1 h), 215-217. ΑΥΤ•Κ Μ•ΑΝΤⲰΝΙΝΟC CЄ Radiate head of Caracalla to right, with slight drapery on his left shoulder. Rev. •ΔΗΜΑΡ•ЄΞ•ΥΠΑΤ•ΤΟ Δ• / Κ Eagle with spread wings standing facing, head to left and holding wreath in beak; between the eagle's legs, pellet above lit altar. Prieur 1317 var. (no drapery on bust). Extremely rare, a single example recorded by Prieur. Very fine.
