★ A very rare drachm of Kavadh I ★
SASANIAN KINGS. Kavadh I, second reign, 499-531. Drachm (Silver, 28 mm, 4.09 g, 1 h), ALM (mint located probably in Armenia), RY 34 = AD 525/6. KW'T AFZUT ('Kavad, may he increase' in Pahlawi) Draped bust of Kavadh I to right, wearing mural crown with frontal crescent and korymbos set on crescent. Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants; in upper field to left, five-pointed star; in upper field to right, crescent; in field to left, date in Pahlawi; in field to right, ALM (name of the mint in Pahlawi). SNS III, pl. 114, 4 var. (differing RY). Very rare. Struck from a slightly worn obverse die, otherwise, extremely fine.
