★ The earliest known issue from the Yaudheya ★

INDIA, Yaudheya. AE (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.13 g), 1st century BC. '[YAUDHEYANAM BAHU]DHANAKA' (in Brahmi) Bull standing right; to right, yupa (sacrificial post). Rev. Traces of symbols. Pieper 1110. Struck somewhat off center, otherwise, very fine.

From a collection of coins from Central Asia.

This interesting coin with a sacrificial bull is the earliest known issue from the Yaudheya, a dreaded tribe of warriors worshipping Karttikeya, the Hindu god of war.
