Description

John V Palaeologus, with Anna of Savoy (Regent), 1341-1347. Basilikon (Silver, 20 mm, 0.86 g, 6 h), light series. Constantinopolis, circa 1344-1345. IC - XC Christ, nimbate, seated facing on throne with back, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in his left. Rev. AИA - Ι-Ⲱ - ЄΝΧⲰ Anna of Savoy, on the left, standing facing, wearing loros, holding trefoil scepter in her right hand and placing her left hand on her chest, and John V, on the right, standing facing, wearing loros, holding cruciform scepter in his left hand and anexikakia in his right. DOC 1103-44. LBC -. LPC 132.2. PCPC 277. SB 2503. Rare unusually attractive. Areas of weakness as usual, otherwise, extremely fine.
