Theodosius II, 402-450. Solidus (Gold, 22 mm, 4.45 g, 11 h), Constantinopolis, circa 425-430. D N THEODO-SIVS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Theodosius II facing, his head turned slightly to right, holding spear in his right hand and with a shield, decorated with a horseman spearing a fallen foe, over his left shoulder. Rev. SALVS REI PVB-LICAE / CONOB Theodosius II seated facing on the left and Valentinian III standing facing on the right, both wearing consular robes and holding a mappa in their right hands and a cross in their left; above, star. Depeyrot 78/1. RIC 234. Rare. A sharp and attractive example of this interesting issue. Virtually as struck.
