Description

Trajan, 98-117. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 34 mm, 25.08 g, 7 h), Rome, circa 108-109/10. IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P Laureate head of Trajan to right, with slight drapery on his left shoulder. Rev. S•P•Q•R OPTIMO PRINCIPI / S C Dacian seated to left on shield, in attitude of mourning; two more shields below him; to left, trophy of arms with shield, falcatae and spears at base. BMC 785-792. Cohen 531 var. (no drapery). RIC 564 var. (no drapery). Woytek 326bC. A lovely example with a superb deep green patina. Light smoothing and with very minor pitting, otherwise, about extremely fine.
