Description

★ Extremely rare and in exceptional condition for the issue ★

PHOENICIA. Aradus. Caracalla, 198-217. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 13.65 g, 7 h), 215-217. ΑΥ•Κ•Μ•Α•ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟC Laureate and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to left, cuirass decorated with aegis and with trabea hanging over his left shoulder. Rev. ΔΗΜΑΡΧ ЄΞ ΥΠΑΤΟC Δ Eagle with spread wings standing facing, head to left and holding wreath in beak; between the eagle's legs, crescent. Prieur 1259 corr. (reverse legend). Extremely rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Lustrous and very likely the finest known example. Minor flan faults on the obverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
