In the dire times of Gothic invasions and separatistic secessions in Gaul and Syria, most Provincial mints ceased to strike coins under Gallienus. The extremely rare issues of Claudius II from Cyzicus therefore constitute the last emission of Roman Provincial coins from Northwestern Asia Minor, postdated in the entire empire only by the considerable output of a handful of Pisidian and Pamphylian mints under Claudius II and Aurelian, and by the special case of Alexandria in Egypt down to the first Tetrarchy.
