Description

★ A very rare drachm from Poseidonia ★

LUCANIA. Poseidonia. Circa 530-500 BC. Drachm (Silver, 19 mm, 3.50 g, 12 h). ΠΟM-E Poseidon, nude but for chlamys over his shoulders, striding right, brandishing a trident held in his right hand; border of dots. Rev. ΠΟM-E Poseidon, as on the obverse, but incuse; rayed border. HN Italy 1108. Jameson 332 ( same obverse die ). SNG ANS 625 ( same obverse die ). SNG Lloyd 433 ( same obverse die ). Very rare. Beautifully toned and of fine style. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.
