★ An extremely rare 1/4 stater from the Parisii ★
CELTIC, Northeast Gaul. Parisii. Late 2nd to mid 1st century BC. 1/4 Stater (Gold, 15 mm, 1.71 g, 10 h), Mint B, Class 2. Celticized head of Apollo to right, with wavy hair; above and before, two volutes; to right, globule. Rev. Disjointed and stylized horse to right, with a fan-like checker-board design above and a pelleted rope ending in an annulet emerging from the mouth; around, ornaments and pellets. DT 86. Flesche -. LT -. Sills 506 var. Extremely rare. An exceptional example, very sharply struck and with a delightful obverse. Large cut across the reverse and the flan hence slightly bent, otherwise, extremely fine.
Sills notes that of the four recorded examples of his Class 2, three have these large test cuts on the reverse.
