Description

CELTIC, Northwest Gaul. Osismii. Late 2nd to mid 1st century BC. 1/4 Stater (Electrum, 15 mm, 1.64 g, 11 h), 'à la tente' type. Celticized head of Apollo to right, with strings of pearls ending in human heads coming out of his own head. Rev. Charioteer, driving a cart drawn by a centaur to right, holding reins in his left hand and long whip ending in a cross in his right; below, 'fan'. DT 2213. LT 6506. Rare electrum issue. An attractive example struck in unusually good metal. Areas of weakness, otherwise, very fine.
