★ A beautifully toned didrachm of Magas ★

KYRENAICA. Kyrene. Magas, as Ptolemaic Governor, first reign, circa 300-282/75 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 7.85 g, 12 h), Sosis, magistrate. Head of Karneios to left, with ram's horn over his ear. Rev. KY-PA Silphium plant with three pair of leaves and fruits; to upper left, monogram of Sosis; to upper right, star. BMC 240 and pl. XXII, 6 ( same obverse die ). SNG Copenhagen 238. A beautifully toned and unusually attractive piece with a particularly detailed reverse. Good very fine.
