SICILY. Naxos. Circa 420-403 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 14 mm, 2.00 g, 10 h). Head of Dionysos to left, wearing wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. NAΞI-ON Nude bearded Silenos kneeling facing, his torso turned slightly to left and his head turned to right; holding kantharos in his raised left hand and thyrsos in his right, resting near his right knee. Cahn 128 (V78/R105). Extremely rare, one of perhaps half a dozen known examples. Darkly toned and of the finest Classical style. Porous and with a flan crack, otherwise, good very fine.
