Description

★ Reattributed to the Ostrogoths ★

OSTROGOTHS. Theoderic, 493-526. 1/4 Siliqua (Silver, 14 mm, 0.61 g, 5 h), Sirmium, circa 504-526. D N ANASTASIVS P P AVC Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Anastasius I to right. Rev. ✱M IИVIT+A ROMA D Monogram of Theoderic. Faltin Group Q1a.6 var. (S retrograde on the obverse). Well struck and clear. Light doubling on the obverse and faint scratches, otherwise, good very fine.

Faltin convincingly argues for a reattribution of the early so-called Gepid 1/4 Siliquae from Sirmium to the Ostrogoths, who captured the city in 504 and controlled it until circa 536.
