A 1st Class Set of the 1st Type, awarded in 1883–1903: sash badge, 82x50 mm, in gilt silver, with white enameled, blue bordered arms, flanked by gilt, Serbian double eagles with separately made and applied escutcheons in gold and enamels; oval centre medallion with the image of the Saint wearing red robes; blue enameled outer circlet with inscription in gold lettering; reverse medallion with gilt monogram “M I” on white enameled field, within the blue enameled outer circlet with gilt laurel leaves; ornamented suspension loop, struck with “KF” (Karl Fleischhacker, Vienna) “A” and Viennese silver marks; hinged, royal crown and suspension ring also bearing Austrian marks; original, silk, full length sash; breast star, 98x90 mm, with diamond-cut, chiselled rays, superimposed with the gilt silver and enameled order’s cross; the image of the Saint, also wearing red robes; the reverse with reinforced tips, 4 retaining nuts and vertical pin, this, struck with two “A” marks, “.G.A.S.”, “G.A. SCHEID” and “WIEN”. A beautiful set of great rarity, almost perfect condition. I RR!
