The Order of St. Sylvester
A most early Knight’s Cross in GOLD and white enamel to the obverse (the reverse, finely engraved),
39x30 mm, flanked by engraved, golden rays; the lower arm, with a wheeled spur pointing down;
centre medallion in gold with separately-made portrait of the Saint in gold on blue enamelled ground
within chiselled outer circlet; reverse centre medallion also in gold and dark-blue enamel; round
suspension loop and round ribbon-ring, fitted with a hinge-ringlet; with original, silk ribbon.
An uncommon, beautiful piece, dating from the institution of the Order in 1841. I RR!
