Order of St. Louis
A breast star of the Order: chiseled and pierced silver rays; the centre in
gold; the “lily” cross with white enameled details (a small chip to the
lower fleur-de-lys); red, oval centre medallion with polychrome enameled
image of the saint in armour, within deep-sea-blue enameled outer circlet
(minor enamel damage) bearing the Order’s motto in gold lettering; smooth,
polished reverse, with maker’s escutcheon of Lemaitre, Paris; vertical,
broad pin.
A beautiful star, apparently of Italian manufacture (the French escutcheon,
probably applied after a control, as it often happened; the piece, belonged
and worn by members the French Royal Family of the Bourbones of Parma
(provenance: Sotheby’s, sale taken place in Geneva, November 14th, 2018, lot 3). I RR!
