Arthus-Bertrand, Paris: the obverse, profusely set
with brilliants, the arms flanked by crossed swords;
centre medallion with head of the “Republic” facing
right; the outer circlet, bearing the inscription
“REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE” and laurel branches below;
the suspension loop, also set with one brilliant, while
the hinged suspension ring is also set with two
brilliants; smooth reverse; with original, silk ribbon;
in the original, wine-red velvet, fitted case of issue.
A beautiful, lavishly-made piece, as worn by the highest French military leaders of the Great War. Of the highest rarity! I RR!
