Stefan, Friedrich. MÜNZKUNDE DES ALTERTUMS MIT BESONDERER BERÜCKSICHTIGUNG DES RÖMISCHEN MÜNZWESENS BIS ZUM ENDE DES 5. JAHRHUNDERTS N. CHR. Graz: Sechzigster Jahresbericht der I. Bundes-Realschule in Graz, Veröffentlicht am Schlusse des Schuljahres 1931/32, 1932. 8vo, contemporary brown boards; red spine label, gilt. 58, (2) pages, interleaved; 2 fine Lichtdruck plates depicting ancient Greek and Roman coins. Annotated throughout, particularly on the interleaves, by Dr. August Voirol. Binding a bit weak. Very good. A rarely encountered work, with two high-quality plates. This copy is notable for having been extensively annotated by Dr. August Voirol. Stefan’s work is perhaps most important on the subject of metrology (the spine label made for this copy reads F. Stefan Metrologie d. antik. Münzprägung), and Voirol’s annotations are primarily on this subject. Dr. August Voirol (1884–1967) was a gynecologist in Basel who began collecting in the 1930s and had, by the end of the decade, become so involved with the field that he joined the firm of Münzen und Medaillen as a board member. A founder of the Circulus Numismaticus Basiliensis, he remained active in collecting circles for the rest of his life.
