American Numismatic Society. AMERICAN JOURNAL OF NUMISMATICS. Volumes 42–43, 45, 46, 48 and 49 (1907–1909, 1911, 1912, 1914 and 1915), bound in five volumes. 4to, later tan quarter calf; spines with five raised bands, ruled and lettered in gilt. Some spines sunned; else near fine. Accompanied by: Volumes 16, 52 and the second part of 53 in the original printed paper covers, the index for Volumes 1–50, and two stray earlier issues. Unbound issues are often worn, but generally very good. Noteworthy works on ancient coins include: Svoronos on “The Origins of Coinage,” Agnes Baldwin’s “Facing Heads on Greek Coins,” Edward Newell’s “Reattribution of Certain Tetradrachms of Alexander the Great,” Baldwin’s “Electrum and Silver Coins of Chios,” T.L. Comparette’s “Aes Signatum,” Newell’s “Tarsos under Alexander,” Newell’s “Myriandros–Alexandria–Kat’isson,” and more. A Note from the Collector: These volumes were collected based on their contents. Any article by Newell, not available elsewhere, was top priority. This collector still believes that Newell was a superb numismatist, the likes of whom have still to surface on the American continent.
