H.D. Enterprises. SPECIAL LIST #24A: THE MITRY EGYPTIAN COLLECTION. Denver, August 1996. Three printed sheets, with five pages listing approximate 250 lots of antiquities, mostly scarabs and amulets, but with some jewelry and other items as well. Accompanied by fifty-eight color photographs numbered 1–25 front, 1–25 back, and 26–33. Fine. Philip Mitry’s important collection of Egyptian scarabs and related artifacts. From the introduction: “Mitry began working in the Anglo-American Bookshop in the mid-1920s... Mitry began purchasing antiquities shortly after being employed at the bookstore, eventually convincing the owners to offer antiquities for sale. Eventually Mitry purchased the shop... A license was issued by the Egyptian government registering Mitry as an antiquities dealer allowing him to include certificates documenting the authenticity of pieces as they were sold. Due to anticipated changes in the Egyptian laws governing the ownership and sale of Egypt’s antiquities, Mitry began moving his family and his transportable antiquities collection to the United States in the 1950s, eventually moving here himself in the 1960s...” This photographic presentation was distributed in very limited numbers.
