Heavily annotated throughout, with extensive pricing information added to the printed pages, along with additions, deletions and corrections; interleaves also heavily annotated, with new entries and additional information recorded. Binding very worn, with pages coming loose. Good. The Special Hardbound Interleaved Edition, extensively annotated by Donald Miller, one of the foremost token experts of his day. A comparison of this annotated copy of Adams and a copy of Miller’s 1962 A Catalogue of U.S. Store Cards or Merchants Tokens makes it clear that the present volume served essentially as Miller’s manuscript for his book—which is essentially a revision of Adams with prices added. Prices are given for most entries in this volume in both Fine and Uncirculated condition. More important, however, are Miller’s more substantive additions. He adds information on mintages, rarity, sizes, metals, planchets, dates, and manufacturers, as well as citations of published articles and correlations to other guides—and that is just to the printed pages. His new entries, written on the interleaves, are if anything more expansive than those given by Adams in his original. This is a special copy of what served for years as the main guidebook to American store cards, and area that (with the exception of the Civil War store cards) remains poorly served to this day.
