Collart’s book was well-received, with Ronald Syme’s effusive review in the Classical Review for 1938 stating: “The book is beyond praise. Not only is it lucidly and elegantly written, as one would expect of its talented author: it is fully documented, in every sense, for there is a companion volume in the shape of a stout folder containing plans and photographs. The study of Philippi is thus illuminated in every way—epigraphy, sculpture and religion and well as topography.
