Writing of the cabinet at Milan, Babelon states: “During the time of Napoleon, in 1808, the Keeper of the collection, Giuseppe Cattaneo, bought 5,000 Roman coins from the Duc de Corigliano-Saluzzo for the price of 30,000 livres; they had once belonged to Félix Caronni. Cattaneo also bought 1,700 coins from Millingen, for 20,000 livres, and the collection of the Marquis Anguissola for 10,000 livres; and finally, in 1811, the vast collection of Enrico Sanclemente, Father Superior of the order of Saint Romuald. Cattaneo remained keeper of the Brera Museum until 1842.” Babelon 131.
