Inscribed by the author to P.R. Franke, “mit herzlichen Weilmachtsgrüßen von Verf,” accompanied by two photographs, one of the author and one of the author and Franke, taken in Badenweiler in 1972. Minor rubbing to board edges; near fine. A charming copy of this catalogue, inscribed by the author to his friend Peter Robert Franke, with photographs of the two affixed to the opening blank. This copy has been treated to a remarkable binding by Dionysis Valassis, who fashioned an enlarged bronze replica of the Athenian owl reverse used on tetradrachms and integrated it into the front cover. Schwabacher (1897–1972) was a German numismatist born of a numismatic family that included his grandfather Adolphe Cahn and father Heinrich Wilhelm Schwabacher. He fled the Nazis and ended up in Sweden, where he remained for most of the ret of his life, where he taught at Universität Stockholm and served as a curator of the Kungliga Myntkabinett.
