Lindsay, John. A VIEW OF THE COINAGE OF IRELAND, FROM THE INVASION OF THE DANES TO THE REIGN OF GEORGE IV… Cork, 1839. First edition. 4to, original cloth-backed boards, professionally rebacked long ago; housed in modern matching slipcase with printed spine label. (4), iv, 143, (1) pages; 8 tables; 9 + 5 lithographic plates of coins. Spine rubbed; contents a bit foxed as usual. Very good. A major early work on Irish coins, which built on the earlier work by Simon and the supplement to that work by Snelling. As stated in the Preface, Lindsay maintained much of Simon’s work on the Anglo-Irish coinage, but provided much new material on the Hiberno-Danish coinage. John Lindsay (1789–1870) was an Irish barrister who collected and published on a number of numismatic subjects. Clain-Stefanelli 10128*. Leitzmann 78. Ex Kolbe Sale 87, lot 1315 (since repaired); ex Syd Martin Library.
