Large format catalogues uniformly bound in two matching quarto volumes: dark brown grained half cowhide, with marbled sides; spines with five raised bands, ruled and lettered in gilt and decorated in blind; maroon calf spine labels, gilt. Small format catalogues housed in two matching quarto book boxes; original printed card covers present throughout. All quarto sales with original prices realized lists; several octavo sales hand-priced and many with original prices realized lists. Raymond's December 19, 1938 also bound into first volume. Sale 11 includes the separate Supplement. Also included is the firm's 1933 fixed price list of a numismatic library. Catalogues generally near fine or better. Adams 1-53, complete. The Morgenthau series brought together two talented numismatists whose particular skill sets complemented the other's nicely. As a team, they were able to develop a refined clientele and attend to their requirements, whether buying or selling. The combination of people skills and numismatic capabilities was clearly successful, and the partnership lasted until Macallister's death in 1945. Unlike the catalogues of the United States Coin Company, which are decidedly scarce and often genuinely rare, the Morgenthau catalogues are fairly available--though complete runs are infrequently encountered. Notable sales include: the 1933 "Great American" sale offering material from the Virgil Brand collection; several auctions with important offerings from the Waldo Newcomer collection; two sales devoted to ancient coins from the Russell Burrage collection (depicted on 16 halftone plates); the William Festus Morgan large cent sale; the two-part auction of Howard R.
