Hodges, J. Tyler, et al. [publishers]. THE JOURNAL OF FINANCE AND BANK REPORTER / HODGES' JOURNAL OF FINANCE AND BANK REPORTER. Two issues. New-York, Volume 4, No. 11 (August 1, 1857) and November 1, 1859. Self-covered 4to. 32 pages each. First issue browned. Very good. An important bank note reporter, of somewhat complicated bibliographical history. The first issue was published by James Monroe and J. Tyler Hodges, who had combined their individual publications earlier in 1857 to form The Journal of Finance and Bank Reporter. The merger didn't last, however, and Hodges was publishing his own Journal shortly thereafter. While Hodges' Journal boasted of a circulation of 100,000 by 1858, issues are rare today, mainly due to their ephemeral nature--a trait they share with most bank note reporters.
