Coke, T. [publisher], and T.C. Watkins [editor]. THE EMPIRE STATE PHILATELIST. Volumes I-III (New York, 1885-1887), complete, bound in one volume. 8vo, contemporary black half calf with pebbled cloth sides; spine ruled and lettered in gilt; decorative endpapers. 44, 8, 8, 8, 8, 16 + 96 + 80 pages; occasional illustrations. Front hinge very weak, with board almost loose. Very good, overall. Bourne 1880-76. A complete set of this important and rather rare 19th-century American philatelic journal. Beginning with the April 1886 issue, the masthead states that it is the "Official Organ of the American Philatelical Society." Two issues in Volume III (Nos. 2 and 3) had Coin and Curiosity Collector appended to the title, and some minor numismatic content is to be found in these and some other issues. In Volume I, Nos. 9 and 11 were skipped: the volume is complete as published. Crawford 541. Ex M. Bourne Library.
