Roman Republic Denarius 57/6 BC. NGC XF
Scarce later Republican denarius. L. Mar. Philippus, issued during rule of Julius Caesar as Pontifex maximus and Proconsul of Rome. L. Marcus Philippus was a supporter of Caesar, who made him Praetor in 44 BC, and consul in 38 BC. The statue of Marcius Tremulus on the reverse is represented on an aqueduct, the Aqua Marcia. It was the longest aqueduct in Rome, built in 144-140 BC. An important historical coin. XF grade, exceptionally nice and highly popular piece.
