Etruscan Sanguisuga Fibula
7th century BCE
Bronze, 44 mm, 17,02 g
Massive cast fibula with elongated catch-plate, raised and expanded bow, small two-coiled spring and straight pin. Deeply incised decoration on bow of parallel lines. Fibulae such as this one, named for their resemblance to leeches, were almost exclusive to female burials, where they have been found in pairs or in groups of four.
Very fine condition. Repaired pin.
