Great Britain Medal Charles George Gordon 1884
Zinc 33.24 g., 45 mm.; W.O. Lewis, Birmingham, 1884, bust of C.G. Gordon, the latest Christian martyr / within wreath, sent by the Gladstone government to the Soudan with one companion, Jan'y 1884 in March he asked for 200 British troops but was deliberately abandoned to his fate until too late, lustrous About Uncirculated, RR. Charles George Gordon (January 28, 1833 - January 26, 1885), soldier and administrator, remembered for his exploits in China and northern Africa. The Siege of Khartoum commenced on the 18th March, 1884. The relief force arrived at Metemma on the 20th January 1885, started for Khartoum on the 24th arriving on the the 28th to find the city had been captured and Gordon killed two days before.
