GREECE: Original silver medal that was awarded to winners during the 1st Modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. Such medals were silver for the first winner and bronze for the second. On the obverse, Zeus is holding the Goddess of Victory with a vertical inscription "ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑ" on the left and the name of the engraver on the right. View of Acropolis on reverse with the inscription "ΔΙΕΘΝΕΙΣ ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΚΟΙ ΑΓΩΝΕΣ" around the perimeter on top and "ΕΝ ΑΘΗΝΑΙΣ / 1896" at bottom. Engraved by J. C. Chaplain. Diameter: 51mm.
