SNG von Aulock 4787. SNG Copenhagen 393-4. A beautiful early example of this city's coinage, in full Classical style. Apparently unpublished countermark. This countermark was applied in Kyzikos. Similar countermarks were applied in other Asia Minor cities, and Price has linked these countermarks to the introduction of the cistophoric coinage circa 180 BC. Their use allowed Attic-weight coins to continue to circulate in the post-reform years.
