Above the head, at the top of the medal, these words: FONDATION/ CARNEGIE/ 1909. Below the portrait, these words: LIBÉRALITÉ/ D’UN CITOYEN AMERICAIN/ LES ACTES DE COURAGE/ ACCOMPLIS EN FRANCE. REV: A winged female figure, right, holds a laurel wreath above a kneeling nude man, left. Above the winged figure these words: AUX HÉROS/ DE LA CIVILIZATION.
