A rare sestertius of Lucius Verus' first issue, not yet calling him TR P; and possibly the first attested sestertius of this emperor to show his portrait facing left rather than right. From the same reverse die as the preceding lot in this sale, and as a supposed sestertius of Aelius Caesar, Ars Classica XVII, 3 Oct. 1934, Coll. Sir Arthur J. Evans, lot 1433, on which the obverse legend has been altered from the original IMP CAES L AVREL VERVS AVG to L AELIVS CAESAR.. VG
