Trajan. Sestertius; Trajan; 98-117 AD, Rome, 112/113-114 AD, Sestertius, 27.87g. Woytek-480ff (new combination). Obv: Dated COS VI, not yet "Optimus"; Bust laureate, draped, cuirassed r., globe below r. shoulder. Rx: FELICITAS AVGVST S - C Felicitas standing l. holding short winged caduceus and cornucopia. Ex Curtis L. Clay Collection; ex CNG E429, 26 September 2018, 331. The obverse of this coin shows a very rare draped and cuirassed bust type resting on a globe, appearing here for the first time on a sestertius of Trajan. Woytek knew this type on a single obverse die for aurei, but on no silver or bronze coins; see his Type ff, p. 79, pl. III.Wonderful jade-green patination, with smooth, flawless surfaces. EF
