Galba. Dupondius; Galba; 68-69 AD, Rome, Dupondius, 13.76g. BM-139, Paris-216 pl. XVI (same dies), C-306 (5 Fr.), RIC-419 (Scarce). Obv: SER GALBA IMP CAESAR AVG TR P Bust laureate, draped r. Rx: SPQR OB CIVES SERVATOS in four lines within oak wreath. Ex NAC 45, 2 April 2008, Barry Feirstein Part IV, lot 99; since 1968 Harlan J. Berk Personal Collection until sold to Feirstein; ex Virgil Brand Collection. Rare. As often in the early empire, the letters S C were omitted from this reverse type because they were felt to be already included in the SPQR.Harlan J. Berk owned this coin personally from 1968 until he sold it to a client in about 2000. When the collection of this individual was dispersed, Harlan re-purchased it because of its extreme beauty. EF
