Description

IONIA.
MILET. Tetradrachm, type of king Alexander the Great, about 210-190. AR 16.78 g. Obv. Head of unbearded Herakles r., wearing lion skin. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus, nude to waist, seated l. on throne with high back-rest, holding long sceptre with his l. hand, eagle on his outstretched r. hand; in field l., lion standing l. and looking back, with star above and monogram below; under the seat, monogram. Price 2176 var. (right field monogram missing).
Struck on a broad flan, and fine style. Minor scratches and flan flaws.
