COINS OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE. FAUSTINA II, wife of Marcus Aurelius, died AD 176. Aureus, struck under Antoninus Pius, about 145-161. AV 7.15 g. FAVSTINAE - AVG PII AVG FIL Draped bust r., band of pearls in the hair, which ends in a chignon in the back of the head. Rev. V - E - NVS Venus, wearing long dress, standing facing, head turned l., holding apple in her raised r. hand, with her l. hand, rudder with dolphin twined round it. BMC 161,1063; Calico I, 379,2064; RIC 95,517c. Charming portrait of excellent style with high relief. Uncirculated and almost as struck
