SELEUCID KINGDOM OF SYRIA. SELEUCUS I NICATOR, king 321-280 BC. Tetradrachm, Seleucia in Pieria, about 300. AR 17.11 g. Unbearded head of Heracles r., wearing lion skin. Rev. ΣEΛEYKOY -BAΣIΛEΩΣ Zeus, wearing himation, nude to waist, seated l. on throne with high back-rest, holding long sceptre with his l,. hand, on his outstretched r. hand, Nike presenting him wreath; in outer l. field, monogram, below seat, KP. Houghton-Lorber SC I ,23,29/1b; Le Rider, Antioche 15,1; Newell, WSM 86,890. Excellent style, high relief. Nice old tone. Extremely fine

Provenance: From an old Swiss Collection started in the 19th century.
