KINGDOM OF MACEDONIA. ALEXANDROS III THE GREAT, king 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm, posthumous, Pella, about 280-270. AR 16.75 g. Unbearded head of Heracles r., wearing lion skin. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus, wearing himation, nude to waist, seated l. on diphros, holding sceptre with his l. hand, eagle on his outstretched r. hand; in field l., bunch of grapes and monogram. Price 146,577; R.W. Mathisen, Antigonus Gonatas and the Silver Coinages of Macedonia circa 280-270 BC, ANS MN 26 (1981), pl. 20,22 (this specimen). Nice old tone. Extremely fine
