Philip III Counterstamped Cob 8 Reales (16)17 VF35 ANACS, Mint illegible (possibly Seville), cf. KM37.3, Cal-183. With Portuguese-style cross counterstamp on reverse. An intriguing study piece with the majority of the integral details intact, including the last two digits of the date. We note this as a likely Spanish emission, as the denomination is written in Roman numerals rather than script. An example with a similar cross counterstamp appeared in a Baldwin's sale, where they postulated that it might stem from Portuguese India.
