MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AR tetradrachm (27mm, 17.03 gm, 9h). Choice VF. Imitative (?) posthumous issue of Amphipolis, under Cassander, 307-297 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus seated left on backless throne, right leg drawn back, feet on stool, eagle in right hand, scepter in left; Λ above race torch in left field, PK monogram below throne. Price -, cf. 490. The style of the portrait and Zeus are accurate for a regular issue of Amphipolis, however, the legend was engraved in an almost scriptlike fashion and the series mark below the throne appears to be a corrupted KO monogram found on Price 490. Most likely this is an official issue and the celator assigned to engrave the legend was rushed to get the die completed.
