Description

Hamburg. Free City gold Portugalöser of 10 Ducats ND (1713) MS62 NGC, Gaed-1727. 52mm. 34.75gm. A very rare medallic 10 Ducat issue, with meticulously engraved depictions of Neptune, Mercury and the personified Time boldly rendered and with not a trace of surface interruption. The fields exhibit scuffs and hairlines in line with the near-choice grade, but even these fade into irrelevance before the vast amounts of flashy luster and warm flame-gold color of the planchet. Beautiful for its production, impressive for its preservation and from a highly popular series; the first of this type we have handled, and sure to elicit significant bidder attention.
