George III gold 1/4 Guinea 1762 MS65 NGC, KM592, S-3741. A one-year type (Quarter Guineas were only struck in two years, this and 1718), and conditionally rare in gem grade. Due to the issues facing coinage in Britain in the late 18th century, Quarter Guineas were desperately needed to counteract the dearth of silver in circulation and as such they generally exhibit strong evidence of circulation. This piece is a well-detailed and lustrous little jewel, toned to a light orange in areas of the margins. From the Caranett Collection
