Description

Christian X gold Proof 20 Kroner 1914 (h)-VBP PR67 Cameo NGC, Copenhagen mint, KM817.1 (unlisted in Proof), Hede-1A, Sieg-3.1. By all measures an absolute giant within the series of 19th and 20th-century Danish rarities, with the gold Proofs of this period being among the most fiercely collected coins of the nation. Not only do such mirrored strikings appear to be extremely poorly documented, when they are recorded at all, but of those that have been certified at the Proof or Specimen level between both NGC and PCGS, a paltry 15 examples from between 1873 and 1914 have ranked as fine or finer than this offering. The nearest comparable piece we can reference is a SP68 Deep Cameo that brought nearly $6000 as part of our sale of the Feeling Good Collection last September, and we have not been able to locate another Proof coming to auction in the last 15-20 years.
