Nero (AD 54-68). AV aureus (18mm, 7.58 gm, 4h). NGC Choice VF 4/5 - 4/5. Rome, AD 60-61. NERO•CAESAR•AVG•IMP, bare head of Nero right / PONTIF•MAX TR-P VII COS IIII P P, Virtus standing left in military attire, right foot on helmet within pile of arms, parazonium in right hand set on knee, grounded spear in left; EX-S C across fields. RIC I 25. Calicó 429. Lovely old reddish toning suggestive of the Boscoreale Hoard of 1894. From a Private Japanese Collection. Ex Heritage Auction 3030 (NYINC, 5 January 2014), lot 23936.
