Safavid. Husayn I gold Ashrafi AH 1122 (1710/11) MS62 NGC, Shiraz mint, KM-Unl., A-Unl., SICA-Unl., Rabino-Unl., Farahbakhsh-Unl. A seemingly entirely unpublished type. Album notes that Husayn's ashrafis were minted from AH 1127 onwards, and does not mention this relatively austere obverse-reverse combination as a known issue (without inclusion of a distich). Rabino and Farahbakhsh additional cite Shiraz only as a silver mint from this reign, although gold emissions from the mint are known from earlier reigns. We have been able to locate only two other Ashrafis of Husayn from Shiraz, both from Busso Peus Nachfolger's November 2018 Auction 423 (lots 719 and 720), dated 1122 and 1129, respectively, with the former being struck on a much broader flan than this piece.
