Hawaii Republic of Hawaii 5 Dollars 1895 (ND. 1897) Pick 11a PMG Fine 12. As intriguing as it is rare, this 19th century Pacific Island issue is seldom seen in any grade. At the time of cataloging, there are only six examples graded in the PMG Population Report. The Republic of Hawaii was a short-lived entity, which existed only from 1894 until 1898. These interesting banknotes were backed by silver in the Treasury, which was minted in the United States. A historically important and interesting banknote, which is widely sought after regardless of condition. Despite extensive wear, this example retains the majority of its details, leading to a decent enough presentation considering the climate and economic conditions.
